Cement Leakage Stopped & Downtime Cut with BFM®

Title Line

Cement leakage may seem like a small nuisance, but for many concrete and screed plants it’s a persistent source of downtime, housekeeping burden, and operator frustration.

At S Morris Ltd, a construction materials manufacturer in the UK, a single flexible connector on the mixer inlet was causing exactly those issues — until the team switched to BFM® fitting.

The Challenge

Title Line

At S Morris Ltd’s concrete and screed plant, an ill-fitting flexible connector on the mixer inlet was causing persistent cement leakage.

The connector was secured with jubilee clips, creating an inconsistent seal and multiple creases where cement accumulated.

Moisture from the mixer caused the cement to harden inside the sleeve, leading to blockages that required daily removal of the connector.

Staff spent around 20 minutes after every shift cleaning the mixer platform and breaking off dried cement with hammers.
“It’s hard cleaning up dried cement and tedious having to stay behind to sort it out" said the plant manager.

The BFM® Solution

Title Line

Local BFM® Distributor, ProSpare Ltd, recommended installing a durable BFM® Seeflex 040E connector on the mixer inlet.

The BFM® fitting immediately stopped cement escaping from the mixer inlet.

This has meant there is now a much cleaner mixer platform and the removal of daily housekeeping have significantly improved working conditions.

Overall plant efficiency and staff morale has been drastically improved simply by swapping out the old-style clamped connectors for the BFM® fitting system.

Benefits Achieved

Staff no longer spend hours cleaning cement blockages and leakage from around the connection.

The superior seal of the BFM® Seeflex connector means there is no cement dust leaking out of the connection and onto the mixer platform.
The same BLUEBAND™ connector has been in service for over a year and now only requires monthly removal for housekeeping.
